St. Anthony's School
community is located in Kincardine on the sparkling shores
of Lake Huron in Mid-Western Ontario. While this region has
a large agricultural base, it also serves as the host
community for Bruce Power, a nuclear power facility located
just north of town. St. Anthony's is a dual track, junior kindergarten to grade 8 school with programs in English and French Immersion. With a student populatoin of about 240, we offer a wide range of intramural and academic activities to our students. We enjoy sports, chess, music, drama and computer technology including robotics and video production. We boast one of the best equipped libraries in the area, classroom computers as well as a computer lab for access to Ministry software and the Internet. Our lab contains digital capture, editing and production equipment. In our French Immersion program, the usual curriculum activities are conducted in a second language which is the medium of instruction rather than the object of instruction. There are variables in immersion programs as to the amount of time each day spent in the second language. Students who go through the entire sequence of an elementary immersion program are able to communicate in the second language on topics appropriate to their age level. In addition to the goal of functional proficiency in the second language, immersion programs have as a further goal: the mastery of subject content which is taught through the second language.
